Career Talk @ Republic Polytechnic

By Ivory Lim (27th April 2007)

After our successful recruitment drive at Republic Polytechnic (RP), Little Red Dot Academy (LRDA) received various enquiries from students with regards to our STAR programme, the lifestyle of a cabin crew and even the possibility of pursuing flight attending as a profession.

Wanting to provide students with a deeper insight into this career path, LRDA collaborated with the Young Aspirers Club of RP to conduct a lunch time talk on “A Career in Flight Attending”.

An overwhelming number of students turned up for the career talk on at RP on the 27 April that we had to regrettably turn students down due to space constraints. However the lucky 220 students who did manage to sit in for the talk were treated to a fun and interactive session with our trainers and consultants.

Regional Manager, Mr. Abdul Rashib kicked off the session by sharing with students about the status of the airline industry, airline business models and the different airlines which recruit in Singapore. Students also received information about the different career paths that a flight attendant can undertake during and after his/her career.

Spicing things up, our trainers, Ms. Mika Swee and Ms. Susan Dhing, put on a little skit where they reminisced and provided anecdotes about their flying experience. They also shared with the class, what is expected of a potential flight attendant from a cabin crew trainer and recruiters’ point of view.

The one-hour session was then wrapped up a Q&A session whereby students had the opportunity to ask and seek clarifications on subjects such as job prospects, requirements of the airline industry and even tips on how to ace that tough airline interview.

We would like to thank the lecturers and students of Republic Polytechnic for organising this session. We had fun and we hope you did too!
